Golden walk

It's getting colder, darker, murkier outside.  The bonfires have all burned out, leaving behind cold, grey ash. The earth sends chills up through my feet. I don't want to linger. I'm remembering a walk home from the allotment before Halloween, when we collected twigs to make a broom. The heavy sun threw giant sized shadows across damp grass. The chill in the air drove us home sooner than I wanted to go.

  1. That was a sad post - are you feeling all autumnally melancholic - the weather has deteriorated somewhat all damp and drizzley here and the fog never seems to lift - but that is November for you. At least it's doing what its supposed to.

  2. Lovely autumnal photos. The trees are holding on to their leaves much longer this year.

  3. Yes Elaine I've been feeling sad this week. I think my mood has been colouring my view of the season rather than the season causing my mood. Either way it will pass.

Thanks Jo: I noticed the tree with the red leaves had lost most of them a day later.

  4. We're feeling it too...the days are getting darker and darker and the rain keeps you inside. It's barely autumn and I can't wait for Spring to hurry up ;)

  6. Staying positive, it's 6 weeks to winter solstice and then the days start getting lighter again!
I'm enjoying reading all your lovely blogs that I wouldn't normally have time to read. Thanks for the comments ladies X

  7. I've just been looking at your photos again and can't believe I missed the one of Barney when I looked yesterday, Lorna. What a handsome chap he is. I love Cavaliers, they have such wonderful temperaments.

  8. That's exactly what I was thinking the other day. It's only 5 weeks to the shortest day. Even though for me January is my worst month - no Christmas lights to cheer me up, at least once January is here I know it won't be long before I can get growing again.

  9. Keep your Christmas lights up until March Wellywoman! I have fairy lights everywhere. :)

Jo, Barney had his yearly check up, they found a tooth missing and he had to go in to have it removed. He came home with 14 teeth taken out, the poor guy. It's been a hard week. They were fine at his last visit. He's 10 now, but still... and he's on raw meaty bones diet which is supposed to be better at cleaning their teeth. Just hoping he can still have his bones.
